The size and dimensions of a space can limit the scope of any remodeling project, from kitchen remodeling to basement remodeling. A particular challenge that often comes up with basement remodeling is dealing with low ceilings. In today’s post, JLR Home Renovation discusses the obstacles that this can cause and provides some tips.
1. Obstructions
A low ceiling contains many obstructions. Inside the ceiling there may be pipes, wires, gas lines and heating ducts that you will need to work around. To avoid costly mistakes, your contractor needs to know exactly where these obstructions are located before beginning work. That’s why it’s essential to work with an experienced contractor.
2. Lighting
Who says basements have to be gloomy or dark? Brightening up the space should be one of your goals when renovating your basement. You can do this through creative lighting sources and materials, as well as by installing the right replacement windows. Remember: you can make a room appear bigger with the right lighting solutions.
3. Excavation
If you want more headroom, excavation is worth considering. Digging deeper could be your best bet, but it’s going to cost you. Plus, you’ll likely need a permit before beginning this type of work to ensure it’s up to code. Another option is to replace your flooring material with one that is less elevated.
